Chess game has rich history and with time it had many development in terms of regulation and styles of chess set. A chess set consists of chess board and chess pieces. A chessboard has 64 square and 16 chess pieces for each player.

A chess set can be made up of various material such as woods, metals, marble, plastic and ivory with a wide variety of styles. A wooden chess set is the most loved one due its history significant and aesthetic appeal. Chess lover own sometimes for ornamental rather than practical purposes.

Before 1849 there were no standard chess set, a variety of chess set were created with regional differences. But with development in chess by 19th century a standard chess set were necessary for tournament and chess club, So Staunton chess set were made, the one we think of chess pieces and love today.
